Anemia May Increase Heart Disease Risk
Anemia is a condition that occurs due to the lack of iron in the body. Iron is an essential mineral because it is a key component of hemoglobin, which carries oxygen to the entire body. A lack of iron may cause fewer red blood cells to be produced.
Whereas, the red blood cells is an essential component in hemoglobin metabolism. That’s why a person with anemia often seen tired or weak because the oxygen supply to perform activities is insufficient.
Due to insufficient oxygen supply to the body, the heart has to work harder to provide oxygen. If left long enough, it could damage your heart and increase the risk of heart disease.
In addition to aggravate the heart work, anemia also can cause complications including fatigue and stress on body organs that were not getting enough oxygen and nutrients.
The symptoms of anemia may include, chest pain, dizziness, fatigue, pale, rapid heartbeat, headache and shortness of breath.
Initially, anemia can be so mild and it goes unnoticed. But the symptoms increase overtime as anemia get worsens
Anemia can be prevented, but depending on the causes of anemia. For instance, anemia caused by congenital blood disorders, such as sickle cell anemia is can not be prevented.
However, if the anemia is due to iron-deficiency, you can prevent it by increasing the iron intake through food. Some foods that are rich in iron include eggs, meat, oysters, shrimp, milk, green peas, peanuts, soybeans and green vegetables.
It is important to note is the iron contained in meat is more easily absorbed than iron in vegetables or dairy products.
