Swine flu is a respiratory disease that infect pigs. This flu is caused by influenza type A, plague of this disease in pigs occurred regularly with high-level cases but rarely to be fatal. However, according to the WHO, the swine flu now found are from the different types, called H1Ni type A. Virus load is typical of the genetic material found in viruses that affect humans, birds and pigs.

Swine flu has the ability to exchange genetic component to one another, and likely a new version of H1N1 is the result of the combination of different versions of the virus.

Swine Flu Symptoms

In general, the symptoms of swine flu in humans similar to ordinary flu where the fever appears suddenly, cough, muscle pain, sore throat and excessive fatigue. Besides that, sometimes swine flu can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

How to Prevent Swine Flu

In the release issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP U.S.), to prevent virus transmission, there are several ways you can do, such as closing the nose and mouth with tissue when coughing/ sneezing, dispose tissue to the trash, wash hands with soap and water, especially after coughing or sneezing, avoid contact with infected people.

If sick, you should remain in the house. Do not touch eyes, nose, or mouth. Cooking pork at a temperature of 171 degrees celsius so that all the viruses and bacteria die.

Swine Flu Treatment

United States government says the two drugs used to treat swine flu, Tamiflu and Relenza, seems effective in the cases that occurred so far. But it’s not yet clear that the effectiveness of flu vaccine in protecting people from this new virus, because the genetic type of flu is different from the others.

United States scientists have developed a new vaccine, but time is needed to refine and produces in the sufficient amount to meet the needs.
