She has undergone 30 operations for trying to fix her face. To make cheekbones, the doctors took parts from her ribs and fashioned an upper jaw from one of her leg bones. She had numerous skin grafts from her thighs. Still, she was left unable to eat solid food, breathe on her own or smell.

But on December 10th, after 22 hours operation, Dr. Maria Siemionow led a team of doctors managed to replace 80 percent of Culp’s face with bones, muscles, nerves, skin and blood vessels from another dead woman. Although other face transplant were not far-reaching as this but it was the fourth face transplant in the world.  Still, there is no information about the donor or how she died.

Culp’s face is now bloated and squarish and her skins droops in big folds that doctors hope to trim away as her circulation improves and her nerves grow, animating her new muscles.
